New Official Guidelines regarding doujin/fanworks http://www.fate-go.jp/sp/guidelines.html
The FGO staff has posted new official guidelines regarding the creation and selling of doujin/fanworks.
Briefly:
1) In-game assets (art, movies, etc.) may not be used. Original art based on in-game art is allowed (tracing is not allowed).
2) In-game logos/icons may not be used, and packaging/labels that could be confused for official products are not allowed.
3) Works that essentially copy or repeat the story, even if translated into another language, are not allowed.
4) Use of in-game music is not allowed.
In addition:
1) Doujinshi and doujin games are allowed as long as they adhere to the guidelines above.
2) Doujin goods with the intent of retail/exceeding the normal scope of doujin goods are forbidden.
3) Creating figures based on in-game art/poses with the intent of selling are not allowed.
For those of you who are wondering, no, they do not mention anything about H content.
The guidelines are likely a reaction to the game's growing popularity in China and in the West. You have probably seen unofficial merchandise like the Chinese shirt or whatever it is with Riyo Gudako throwing quartz on it. This type of copy-art-directly-and-sell is of course common in China, but it is expressly forbidden. Point 2 about doujin goods in the second section is of course very vaguely worded, but this guideline is targeted to 'retail scope' operations. Selling keychains etc. at a convention's Artist Alley is still allowed.
